Country Comes to Town-Katie Boulware
Whew!
What a week(really? just a week?) it has been! I had a million thoughts before getting off the plane last Saturday. One of which was me being thankful that my host family could understand English because my Spanish was not so good. Well, yes, my host family does understand English but apparently not super country, super southern, super fast English. We have been able to work around that and google translate has been our (sometimes) friend! I can't believe it has only been a week because I have already been able to experience so much in such a short amount of time! Last Sunday, I went to my first Chilean BBQ. It was so great. Being able to just sit around and talk to the host families and really learn about the culture was so interesting. This is a picture we took at the BBQ.
Everyone was so awesome! They were so extremely generous and made us feel so welcomed! It was a great start the the week and I definitely started the week off feeling less anxious because of it. School was a little overwhelming at first but towards the end of the week it started to feel more like home. The children are so sweet!! I can't get over how accepting of us they are. On Wednesday, we were able to go sightseeing around the city. We went to San Cristobal Hill which is so breathtakingly
beautiful. You can literally see the whole city from the top. This weekend I went to Los Andes which is town in the mountains. I was surrounded again by the
most amazing views. This picture is from the hike we did this morning. With week 1 in the books, I am excited to see what week 2 has in store!
